Now WhatsApp Has HD Video Sharing Feature
WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that allows users on Android devices to share high-definition (HD) videos with their contacts. Previously, the messaging platform compressed all videos sent, resulting in lower-quality visuals for recipients.
However, with the recent update (version 2.23.17.74) that started rolling out on Thursday, WhatsApp users can now opt to share specific videos in higher resolution.
When users select a video to share, they'll notice an HD icon at the top of the screen. Toggling this option will enable WhatsApp to send the video in 720p resolution, an improvement over the standard 480p resolution that was the default before.
This new feature is currently available for Android users, and it's not yet clear when it will be accessible to iOS users on the stable version, as it's still in beta testing for iOS.
It's important to highlight that users need to manually choose the HD option every time they wish to share a video in higher resolution.
By default, the app continues to send videos in the standard 480p resolution. This approach ensures that the media exchanged on WhatsApp doesn't take up too much storage space on users' smartphones.
To send an HD video on WhatsApp, follow these steps after updating to the latest Android version:
- Open a chat on WhatsApp and tap on the attachment icon, then select Gallery.
- Find the video you want to share and tap it to preview.
- Locate the HD icon at the top left corner of the screen (next to sticker, text, and drawing icons).
- Choose HD quality, be aware of the larger file size, and tap Done.
- After making any necessary edits, tap the send button in the bottom right corner.
